Authorship Criteria
Authorship and Contributorship
Intermestic: Journal of International Studies recognizes authorship as an important academic responsibility. Authorship must reflect substantial intellectual contributions to the work and accountability for the integrity of the published research.
Criteria for Authorship
To qualify as an author, an individual must satisfy all of the following criteria:
1. Make a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.
2. Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
3. Approve the final version of the manuscript for publication.
4. Agree to be accountable for the work, including cooperating in the investigation and resolution of questions concerning its accuracy or integrity.
These criteria are intended to ensure that authorship accurately reflects intellectual contributions and responsibility.
Author Responsibilities
All authors must agree on the final author list, author order, and corresponding author before submission. Each author must approve the submitted manuscript and its final accepted version.
The corresponding author is responsible for communicating with the editorial office, ensuring that all authors have approved the submission, and providing accurate information about authorship, affiliations, funding, acknowledgments, and relevant declarations.
Individuals who contribute to the work but do not meet the authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately, with their consent. General supervision, administrative support, funding acquisition, or language editing alone does not automatically justify authorship.
Author Contributions
Authors are encouraged to provide a statement describing individual contributions. Where appropriate, the journal may use the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to identify roles such as conceptualization, methodology, investigation, formal analysis, writing, and supervision.
Changes to Authorship
Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must be made in writing to the Editor-in-Chief, with a clear explanation and written agreement from all affected authors, including any author being added or removed.
The journal may suspend editorial processing while a request is assessed. Changes after publication will be considered only when justified and supported by appropriate documentation.
Prohibited Authorship Practices
Gift authorship, ghost authorship, honorary authorship, and the omission of individuals who meet the authorship criteria are not acceptable. Authors must not misrepresent contributions or affiliations.
Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of scholarly work. Any use of generative AI that materially assists with manuscript preparation, analysis, or content creation must be disclosed in accordance with the journal's applicable submission requirements. Authors remain fully responsible for all submitted content.
Concerns regarding authorship disputes will be assessed by the editorial team, which may seek clarification from the individuals and institutions concerned before deciding on appropriate action.
