Abstrak

The issue of immigration is one of the domestic issues in the United States under the leadership of Donald Trump. The United States is one of the major countries that become a destination for immigrants to be referred to as "the nation of immigrants". But the arrival of immigrants brought problems to the nation and the Native Americans. Competition for jobs, cultural issues, crime, and national security are the focus of the Trump administration. Restrictions on the entry of immigrants to the United States refer to three policies, namely nationalism policies, anti-immigrant policies, and anti-Muslim policies. All three are also supported by the US foreign policy in the Trump era, which emphasizes isolationism and protectionism; according to the Trump campaign slogan American First, namely; Make America Great Again, which is applied to various policies. By using the concept of foreign and immigrant policies, this article tries to discuss the reasons for Trump's policy of restricting the entry of immigrants to the United States under the issue of American First. The method used is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach to see the phenomenon of limiting the entry of immigrants to the US. This article produces an assumption that Trump's immigration restriction policy is carried out to protect the public and secure the territory of the United States in achieving the goals of the United States' national interest.
